Hi .. i was working with Xampp till a few days ago. Apache server was running fine till then, but now it is not.
The error in log file is :

[Fri May 04 18:59:37 2012] [error] Can't load Perl file: D:/xampp/apache/conf/extra/startup.pl for server localhost:80, exiting...
[Fri May 04 18:59:52 2012] [error] Attempt to reload DynaLoader.pm aborted.\nCompilation failed in require at D:/xampp/perl/site/lib/ModPerl/Const.pm line 18.\nBEGIN failed--compilation aborted at D:/xampp/perl/site/lib/ModPerl/Const.pm line 18.\nCompilation failed in require at D:/xampp/perl/site/lib/Apache2/Const.pm line 18.\nBEGIN failed--compilation aborted at D:/xampp/perl/site/lib/Apache2/Const.pm line 18.\nCompilation failed in require at D:/xampp/apache/conf/extra/startup.pl line 9.\nBEGIN failed--compilation aborted at D:/xampp/apache/conf/extra/startup.pl line 9.\nCompilation failed in require at (eval 2) line 1.\n
[Fri May 04 18:59:52 2012] [error] Can't load Perl file: D:/xampp/apache/conf/extra/startup.pl for server localhost:80, exiting...

I commented in httpd.conf

# Perl settings
#Include "conf/extra/httpd-perl.conf"
still its not working. Please suggest what to do/

Have you done a check disk (chkdsk) on the drive XAMPP is installed on? Have you got a backup of XAMPP and your workfiles?

Good Luck

Hi i have not done chkdsk, but not sure why this is necessary. And yes i do have a backup of Xampp and work files. But if you are suggesting re installation, i can not uninstall Xampp at first place . So i stopped all services renamed xampp to xampp1 and reinstalled but it failed .

Also i read somewhere it may be because of some Perl library path not being set. i remember while trying out solr over xampp i changed some environment path , does it matter in this case.

Thanks for suggestion though.

#Include "conf/extra/httpd-perl.conf"

are you sure that should not be:
#Include "conf/extra/perl.conf"

Hi, there is no entry in Xampp\apache\conf\httpd.conf by Include "conf/extra/perl.conf"

Here is httpd.conf file

Code: Select all
#
# This is the main Apache HTTP server configuration file.  It contains the
# configuration directives that give the server its instructions.
# See <URL:http://httpd.apache.org/docs/2.2> for detailed information.
# In particular, see
# <URL:http://httpd.apache.org/docs/2.2/mod/directives.html>
# for a discussion of each configuration directive.
#
# Do NOT simply read the instructions in here without understanding
# what they do.  They're here only as hints or reminders.  If you are unsure
# consult the online docs. You have been warned.
#
# Configuration and logfile names: If the filenames you specify for many
# of the server's control files begin with "/" (or "drive:/" for Win32), the
# server will use that explicit path.  If the filenames do *not* begin
# with "/", the value of ServerRoot is prepended -- so "logs/foo.log"
# with ServerRoot set to "D:/xampp/apache" will be interpreted by the
# server as "D:/xampp/apache/logs/foo.log".
#
# NOTE: Where filenames are specified, you must use forward slashes
# instead of backslashes (e.g., "c:/apache" instead of "c:\apache").
# If a drive letter is omitted, the drive on which httpd.exe is located
# will be used by default.  It is recommended that you always supply
# an explicit drive letter in absolute paths to avoid confusion.

#
# ServerRoot: The top of the directory tree under which the server's
# configuration, error, and log files are kept.
#
# Do not add a slash at the end of the directory path.  If you point
# ServerRoot at a non-local disk, be sure to point the LockFile directive
# at a local disk.  If you wish to share the same ServerRoot for multiple
# httpd daemons, you will need to change at least LockFile and PidFile.
#
ServerRoot "D:/xampp/apache"

#
# Listen: Allows you to bind Apache to specific IP addresses and/or
# ports, instead of the default. See also the <VirtualHost>
# directive.
#
# Change this to Listen on specific IP addresses as shown below to
# prevent Apache from glomming onto all bound IP addresses.
#
#Listen 0.0.0.0:80
#Listen [::]:80
Listen 80

#
# Dynamic Shared Object (DSO) Support
#
# To be able to use the functionality of a module which was built as a DSO you
# have to place corresponding `LoadModule' lines at this location so the
# directives contained in it are actually available _before_ they are used.
# Statically compiled modules (those listed by `httpd -l') do not need
# to be loaded here.
#
# Example:
# LoadModule foo_module modules/mod_foo.so

From your code insert -

Code: Select all
# Perl settings
Include "conf/extra/httpd-perl.conf"

its "not" commented out there -

Which kinda puts me back in my original mind-set -- that you may have a corrupt installation. (which was why I asked if you had backups).

I just installed 1.77 on a fresh Win 7 machine and got zero probs out of the box. If you have not tinkered with the files mentioned in the error message, then they are probably corrupt or missing.

I think its a corrupt installation. It was working for around a week after installation. And suddenly it stopped (probably because i was trying to configure solr) . But all solr files are under tomcat not in Apache so at least localhost must be there. And i have removed the comment before pasting here.

I think i may have to re-install Xampp. Will wait for Windows 8 Release preview to come next month. P.s. It was working on Windows 8 x32 Consumer Preview.
