Can't Access Localhost

Postby tcarnevale » 09. March 2012 20:29

I've installed XAMPP 1.7.7 on a Windows 7 machine.

However when I try to access localhost or phpMyAdmin via the browser, I get "Server Not Found". I've tried using http://localhost, http://localhost/phpmyadmin, http://127.0.0.1, and http://127.0.0.1/phpmyadmin - same results.

I've checked the httpd.conf file it says "
Listen 80
". C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts says "
127.0.0.1 localhost
".

Apache error log says:

What can I try next?

Thanks!

Try a reboot and see if that helps.

Do you have a firewall or some other security software like ZoneAlarm that could be blocking the Apache and MySQL ports 80/443/3306?

You could try using the newer version 3 control panel found in the xampp installation folder:
xampp-control-3-beta.exe

Or better still, the latest and greatest Control Panel Version 3 can be downloaded and the relevant post is linked below my signature.

Simply extract all the files from the CPv3 folder in to the xampp installation folder and overwrite when asked - do not extract the CPv3 folder complete, only extract it's content.
Then right click the exe file to run as administrator and to create a shortcut to the desktop for example, for easier access.

Make sure that you have exited all other control panel versions before starting this latest version.

This version 3 (XCPv3) control panel has many new features including a much more detailed log window and a button to easily access the log files to help with troubleshooting start and running issues.

Good luck as your post did seem to be indicating that the server has started and listening on port 80, but the version 3 control panel may have more details in the log window. :)
