Newby Questions

Hello community,

I am new to programming in a win32 environment. I am running Windows 7, and I am trying to get PHP, MySQL, Apache 2.2, and ActivePerl to play nice with each other. In my research, I ran across XAMPP for Windows, and I have some questions.

1) Does the latest version work well with Windows 7 (I guess it's XAMPP version 1.7.7). If so, I believe I will install it

I currently have ActivePerl 5.14.2, APache 2.2, and the latest version of MySQL installed now, and I have verified that each program runs correctly independently.

2) What exactly is XAMPP? Is it a bundled source for all of these utilities that will replace the current engines I already have installed? Or is it a library or plug-in that will help me better coordinate these programs that are already installed?

I have been trying to run some .cgi scripts with Apache, and I am getting some mixed success. I believe it's just related to improper configuration, but any direction and help would be much appreciated :)

Thanks,
Todd
