Xampp Zip - Apache won't start [SOLVED]

Postby icor1031 » 08. January 2012 10:27

Hello!

I downloaded and extracted the zip. I ran the xampp-control.exe, and started Apache.

However, the text says "Stopped," and I cannot access localhost.

Thanks.

Try xampp-control-3-beta.exe control panel found in the xampp folder by right clicking and running as an admin as it has better reporting log window.

Where did you extract the xampp folder?

The latest version of the XCPv3 can be found in my signature, just extract all files and folders to the xampp installation folder overwriting when asked, it is even better than the version included in the XAMPP zip file.

Also read the xampp\apache\logs\error.log file for clues why Apache can't start.

To desktop\x, for testing.
3-Beta didn't work, either.
No log file, even after the previous point.

Your file is 7z.

Thanks for replying!

You must extract the xampp folder from the 7z file into the root of a drive like C:\ so you end up with C:\xampp for example - it won't work on the desktop..

XAMPP has issues with spaces and special characters in the folder and file names.

No log files seems to indicate you may need to download and install the VC9 runtime file from here:

New users can find self help by reading these pages first especially this:
readme_en.txt file in the xampp folder.

You rock.

Now with XAMPP, are SQL databases housed within this XAMPP folder? IOW, can I grab this single folder and move it to a new PC, no changes necessary (except support such as disabling windows firewall, etc.) and my website will be intact on the new PC including databases?

Thanks!

Clue, MySQL databases are stored in the C:\xampp\mysql\data folder in folders that are named the same as the database name.

You can copy the whole xampp folder but you may have to run the setup_xampp.bat file in the new PC xampp folder to set the new paths - no guarantee that it will not break anything by copying xampp folder, but it can be tried without any worries. :)

Alternatively you could just extract xampp from the 7z file into your new PC then use phpMyAdmin to export your databases and then import them into your other XAMPP installation on the other PC.
