WAMPP: MySQL Will Not Start or Run

Hello, everyone! :)

For some reason, MySQL has stopped functioning on my system, and it was working before, with no problems.

When I test MySQL via WAMPP's Web interface, I receive the following message:

> MySQL do[es] not function.
> Perhaps MySQL is not started?
> Please use \wamppxxx\mysql_start.bat to start MySQL
>
> First, be sure that the 'my' file (my.cnf) lay under c:\my!
>
> Refresh to check the MySQL status

I checked my 'Services' and, although MySQL is set to start automatically, it is not running. (I am running Windows XP Professional, incidentally.) When I try to start the service, I receive the following error:

> Could not start the MySWL service on Local Computer.
>
> Error 3: The system cannot find the path specified.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can troubleshoot this problem? :?: I do have the 'C:\my' file set up, by the way. I also ran 'mysql-nt_start.bat', but nothing appears to have happened.

(I am a neophyte with WAMPP and I have not done anything with MySQL yet, except to install it and configure the service to start automatically.)

As I say, MySQL was functioning properly in the recent past.

Thank you very much, in advance!

Cordially,

David

Hello, again, everyone! :)

I wish to clarify a point in my initial message. When I run 'mysql-start.bat' and leave the command window open, WAMPP's Web interface does indicate that MySQL is running.

Unfortunately, the problem remains of MySQL not running as a service and of me receiving the error message. I wish to run MySQL as a service, so that I do not have to start it manually all of the time. :(

Which path would be incorrect? :?:

Thank you very much, in advance!

Cordially,

David

Hi

Hello again David! :)

I assume your MySQL server changed it location on your harddisk? The error message you reported means: I try to start a service but I didn't find the MySQL program.

Simply uninstall and reinstall the MySQL service should fix this problem. mysql_uninstallservice.bat and
mysql_installservice.bat

Hope that works! :)

Greetings,
Oswald

Hello, Morpheus and Oswald!

Thank you both for your suggestions. (My German is a bit "rusty," Morpheus, but I got the gist of your message.) :)

Oswald, your suggestion worked. :D I followed your instructions and then started the MySQL service, which I have configured to start automatically; I will see if it does the next time I reboot the system.

I do not have any idea, however, how the server's location got changed on the hard drive! :!:

I am just happy that the service is running now, Oswald.

Thank you very much! :D

Hi
Sorry for writing in German, I'm quite used to talk English as well as German and sometime I mix it up a little bit.
