hello,

i have a strange problem.

I use Xampp 1.7.7 and control panel 2.5. but had this issue on xampp 1.7.3. windows xp sp3. I use xampp to test mysql/php websites locally.
It works perfect! however, when i want to stop using it, the problem arises.

when i want to turn off MYSQL all goes well. then when i turn off APACHE, my computer crashes with a blue screen and restarts.
even when i shut down my computer with XAMPP running, i get the blue screen and the computer restarts (so i can shut it down again...)

i have no skype running or something.

i had this problem with a previous version, just installed the latest and problem is still there.

any help?

I don't believe this is an issue with Apache but perhaps you PC.

Have you had a previous standalone Apache installed on your PC?

Try using the new control panel and see if there are any issues in the log window when you start Apache - first Exit the older panel after stopping and uninstalling any Windows services (make sure the ticks are greyed out and not green),
The latest version XCPv3 can be downloaded from the link in my signature.

Read the Start>Administration Tools>Event Viewer> Applications and System tabs for clues.

Also there is a little free portable (no install required) utility that can read the blue screen info and perhaps give you more clues, download it from here:
http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/blue_screen_view.html

The information you see in the blue screen of death (bsod) is stored by date of occurrence in the C:\WINDOWS\Minidump folder and the above utility can read those files and present them so you can once again see the bsod and all the info they contain - also the ute can do other things like delete the build up of old bsod files etc.

Good luck. :)

Thanks for the fast reply.

I have checked the error log in control panel 3 but found no specific issues.
Then using the Bluescreenview it says the problem is the firewall driver. I am using ZoneAlarm.

so perhaps i need to open up a port or something?

Thanks!

Sorry, I don't know anything about ZA except that it has always given XAMPP issues.

Perhaps you need to configure ZA to allow access to Apache and MySQL.

Good luck. :)

Same thing for me; XP SP 3. XAMPP 1.7.7 and get blue screen or Windows crash when shutting down Apache. Does have ZoneAlarm installed, so thats a clue. Will try without ZoneAlarm running. Next thing to figure out is how to configure ZA to work with XAMPP.

Widows log does not reveal anything obvious.

This seems like a common issue between ZA and Apache in general.

There are many topics posted at the ZA forums and around the internet about this issue and it seems to be an issue with the ZA configuration. You could try looking at a few of these as they offer ZA configuration instructions that have fixed this issue for some people:
