does webdav still have to be secured like in 1.7.3 if running live for now i put a .htaccess in that folder that requires a username and password is that good enough or is there something different i should do?

In XAMPP 1.7.7 webDAV and its modules are commented out by default (~ lines 87, 88, 483 in httpd.conf)
