WINDOWS SHUTS DOWN when I STOP APACHE

Postby countrycousin » 03. December 2011 19:55

Hello! I have just installed XAMPP 1.7.4 and installed Joomla 1.7.3 - everything basically working OK.

BUT if I STOP Apache using the XAMPP control panel or apache_stop.bat Windows XP immediately shuts down and then restarts.

Apache and MySQL are not running as services (i.e. the Svc checkbox is not ticked) - I'm a noob so not sure about this setting.

I've searched the forums and can't find any info about Windows shutting down in this way - I'd be most grateful for any help anyone can offer me!
THANKS.

See if the Windows Event Viewer has any clues:
Start>Administrator Tools>Event Viewer>Application
Then check the other menu items also, System for example.

Consider if Joomla will run with the latest 1.7.7 version as 1.7.4 had many reported issues:

If not then 1.7.3 was a stable release and can be found here:
SourceForge XAMPP File Repository

Uninstall/install instruction using the archive zip or 7zip versions which has also often fixed some strange issues that have surfaced on some Windows versions that may have been caused by the installer exe version:

Good luck. :)
