Do you have any log files in the \xampp\apache\logs folder?

If so paste the last section when you tried to start Apache (check the date and time).

If there are no log files then that means that Apache has never started as it will create the log files and make entries when it attempts to start and when it stops.

You may be missing the runtime file for the method used to compile Apache - VC9
Download and install the runtime file from here and then try and start Apache.

Good luck.

Right then you need to follow the instruction re the runtime file.

Also use the new control panel found in the xampp installation folder:
xampp-control-3-beta.exe
It has more features and best used to stop and start the components.

The latest XCPv3 versions can be found here:
viewtopic.php?f=16&t=48932
Download and drag the exe file only from the archive file into the xampp folder and use this latest version instead.

Sorry I don't know what you mean about your first line or about downloading the beta and the error code.

Did you right click on the xampp-control-3-beta.exe in the xampp folder and select to run as an administrator?

You need full admin rights to run a web server like XAMPP's components.

Sometimes the XAMPP installer version plays up on some Windows version.

Try following these instructions to uninstall/install using the zip or 7zip archive version as it often helps when strange issues arise:
