Inside Joke

Postby BobSchecter » 01. December 2011 00:49

I'm just trying to figure out if this is an elaborate inside joke and I haven't been in on it.

I've installed, uninstalled, gone to every google thread, and followed just about every instruction put out there, and yet apache still won't load. This is a real program, right?

If Apache has never started then there will be no log files in the \xampp\apache\logs folder.

If that is so then you may be missing the Microsoft VC9 runtime file that is required for this XAMPP version.
You can download and install it from here:

BTW only German language posts in the German only forum please.
Thanks and best wishes. :)

Didn't realize I'd posted in a German board. Sorry.

I read every one of those pages and got nowhere, but thanks anyway.

You didn't say if installing the VC9 runtime file allowed you to start Apache?

I read a post somewhere (probably here) that said the Apache may not have been properly uninstalled. If this is the case, then drop to a command line and type:

sc delete apache2.2

hit enter, then type

sc delete mysql

hit enter.

I did this after the last install and without installing, again. My XAMPP works just fine.

@WolfShade
The removing of the Windows services entries in the registry via the Service Controller would apply if there were log files already created in the new installation or any previous installation.

There is no harm in trying that method though, but if it returns a message 'nothing to do' then the issue may well be the missing runtime file, as is often the case with older Windows versions like XP and Vista (and even with some newer Windows versions).

The indication of a missing runtime file is that no log files are created at all which means that Apache has never started, as it will create entries (often error messages) when at attempt is made to start and also entries are created when it stops.

Best wishes. :)
