Are there any clues in the \xampp\apache\logs\error.log file.

You say in your profile you are using a very old and obsolete XAMPP version 1.6.0a is that correct?
You can find the XAMPP version and all the included component versions in the readme_en.txt file.

New users can find self help by reading these first:
readme_en.txt file in the xampp folder.

That is a normal log file created when Apache starts - Apache is running.

What makes you think that Apache has not started?

What do you see when you type http://localhost in your browser?
Code: Select all
[Fri Nov 25 13:26:40 2011] [notice] Apache/2.2.21 (Win32) mod_ssl/2.2.21 OpenSSL/1.0.0e PHP/5.3.8 mod_perl/2.0.4 Perl/v5.10.1 configured -- resuming normal operations
This is telling me that you have installed XAMPP 1.7.7 not 1.6.0a - please change your profile XAMPP version details here:
ucp.php?i=164

Use the new Control Panel by double clicking on xampp-control-3-beta.exe in the xampp folder.
