Closed the control panel - how to restart it

Hi

I have just installed XAMPP (1.7.7) onto my Windows 7 machine without issue and it seems to be working well. (great software - many thanks)

I closed the control panel, but I cannot open it again - I get the error message: "Error: XAMPP is already running".

What can I do? How do I shut down Apache/MySQL when I want to?

Thanks

Tone

As I click 'exit' in control panel the icon disappears from icons in the bottom right-hand corner. Then: apache Friends/xampp/control panel
and it appears again.
you use control panel to shut down apache/mysql

You can always restart your computer. What's the problem...

So, I click exit, the icon disappears but apache Friends/xampp/control panel does not make it appear again.

Of course I can restart, but I don't want to. Was asking if this was a known problem and if there was a fix or workaround.

By clicking exit, do you mean 'X' out of the window or right-click on the taskbar and click Close?

If so, that does not actually close the control panel (and is an intended feature). It hides itself and minimizes itself onto the taskbar as an icon (down by where your network, sound, and other small icons reside). You can restore it by clicking that icon as well.

If you actually want to close the control panel, you have to hit the 'Quit' button on the interface.

If you are using 1.7.7, there is also a newer 'beta' control panel that is much better if you are not already using it (it is called "xampp-control-3-beta.exe" in the "/xampp" folder).

I'll try the 'beta'.

I clicked the X on the window. The program is not on the task bar, but I cannot restart because it thinks it is still running.

Right click on the task bar and select Properties and remove the tick from Hide inactive icons if it is ticked.
