MSSQL issues with XAMPP 1.7.1? (Win7 Pro) [SOLVED]

Using:
XAMPP 1.7.1
Windows 7 Pro 64 bit

I'm having issues with a reference to MSSQL (I don't personally use MSSQL, but it's part of an app I do work on).

We've got an include file that sets up the connection, which causes a fatal error:
Call to undefined function sqlsrv_connect()

Doing a little searching it seems that the dll's aren't being loaded correctly by PHP. I've checked php.ini and haven't found anything obviously wrong. I've never edited default options set by XAMPP install to my knowledge.

I do not have mssql listed in the available PHP streams section of phpinfo().

lil help? Anyone know of some problem areas I should check out? I'm about to do a full re-install, but I have my doubts it'll fix anything as I'm pretty sure I've never messed with those settings anyway. FYI I need to use this older version of XAMPP because our live environment is stuck at PHP 5.2.9 because of some third party stuff... unfortunate I know.

it might be very useful to know WHAT dll's are not loading - (as I can't seem to channel Mr. Spock this AM)

BTW - DLL's have to be Apache compiler and PHP major version matched.

I don't have sqlsvr in registered PHP streams.

I'm using the dll's that came packaged with XAMPP as far as I know, so they should be the correct version for PHP correct? From the PHP documentation, it would appear php_mssql.dll handles the MSSQL functions.

Apparently for my environment the bundled version does not work.

To fix my problem, I had to download another version from Microsoft. All is well now.
