XAMPP is working but I am not able to access my local sites

Postby praveenkrg » 14. November 2011 12:47

Hi,

I recently upgraded the new version of XAMPP (xampp-win32-1.7.7-VC9-installer.exe) since then I am not able to access my local sites.

I tried re-installing many times but no success.

Attached screen-shot for reference: http://i44.tinypic.com/2vd4p06.jpg

Anyone know what could be the problem. Please help!

Regards,

The image is of the control panel showing everything is running as it should.

Now we need to know what you are doing to try and access your local sites.

What are you typing in your browser?

Where are your sites located in the xampp folder tree?

What errors do you see?

What clues are in the \xampp\apache\logs\error.log file?

Remember we need details because we can't see your computer screen form here.

BTW have you tried the version 3 Control Panel, much better with more features, it can be found in the xampp folder
xampp-control-3-beta.exe
Exit the older 2.5 version first.

Thanks Sharley for immediate reply.

I am trying to access my local site like this: (http://localhost/testing1/index.php) it doesn't display anything no error and in title bar it showing "Connecting".

I have installed XAMPP in E drive & XAMPP tree structure is: E: xampp>htdocs>testing1>All my files

Please check the error log file here: http://www.esnips.com/displayimage.php?album=4452263&pid=32978277&uid=1064967#top_display_media

May I suggest that you uninstall the installer exe version and download the zip or 7zip version using these instructions:
viewtopic.php?p=179699#p179699
Make sure that the green ticks under the Services module are removed before Exiting the control panel or they may cause issue when running the archive version - Stop each component then click on the tick and answer yes to any questions asked - do one at a time starting from FileZilla working up the list.

This method has often fixed issues that may have been caused by a buggy installer that will be replaced in the next XAMPP release.

Good luck. :)

Hi Sharley,

I followed the step-by-step process and installed XAMPP using Zip version.

I tried accessing without ticking any service module boxes and with ticking service modules but no success. Please help?

You can paste the content of your new error.log file here.

Don't tick the Svc boxes just yet they will not make any difference as they only install/uninstall the Windows services.

Have you ZoneAlarm or similar security software that you can temporarily disable?

Have you allowed the ports that Apache and MySQL use to pass through any firewalls you may have?

Which browser are you using and can you try to access using a different browser?

I have un-tick the svc box and I don't have any ZoneAlaram. But I use McAfee Antivirus.

Yes Apache and MySQL ports are allowed in firewalls. And I tried accessing it from different browser but same output.

Which browsers have you tried to access http://locahost with?

Try and use http://127.0.0.1 to access and if that works then try the following fix:

Open C:\Windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts file in your text editor (right click on notepad and Run as administrator) then uncomment this line so it looks like this
Code: Select all
127.0.0.1 localhost
#::1 localhost
The first 2 lines after all the commented tags should look like the above now - save the file using any file *.* not as *.txt file.
Often a reboot after this edit helps.

Try again to access localhost in your browser.

Good luck. :)

I tried accessing http://localhost AND http://127.0.0.1. in Firefox 7.0.1, Safari 5.1 and IE 9 browsers but no success.

I tried un-commenting Windows host file but again same result.

Any other tricks?
