[solved]Issue with XAMPP 1.7.7 7z Download File

Postby Altrea » 14. November 2011 05:46

Hi,

i have found / reproduced an issue. Can someone confirm that?
Maybe it is a similar issue like here: viewtopic.php?f=16&t=48936

Here the details:

Issue: Missing files after extraction
System: Windows XP Home x86 @ Singlecore 1,6Ghz
XAMPP-Downloadfile: xampp-win32-1.7.7-VC9.7z (downloaded 20/09/2011)
Extractor: IZarc 4.0 Beta 1 (Build 1760)
done after Download: VHost defined, setup_xampp.bat executed, CP v3.0.9 included

MySQL could not be started because of missing database files (host.MYD). They are included in the 7z file but will not be extracted (and iZarc don't give any message about that exept that all was successful).

here is my mysql error log
Code: Select all

111114  4:59:07 [ERROR] Fatal error: Can't open and lock privilege tables: File '.\mysql\host.MYD' not found (Errcode: 2

P.S.: The current 7zip extractor can extract the file completely. So maybe an extractor issue.

7zip extracts it fine as you pointed out as does WinRAR - both complete files and folders.

IZArc I have is 4.1 and it also fails to extract the host.myd file as it is a zero length file and if you look in the xampp folder in IZArc after selecting to open it you will see that none of the zero length files listed have been extracted.

The config for all files is selected and greyed out which might be an archive type issue with IZArc???

Did you test Altrea if the same occurred extracting the zip archive?

So the recommendation to all who read this is not to use IZArc at this time - use the free 7zip application or if you have it use WinRAR.

I don't usually use an extractor, my preferred method and one I always recommend is to simply drag the xampp folder from the archive to a drive root.

Best wishes. :)

Edit
I have xampp-win32-1.7.6-VC9.zip and IZArc extracts all files and folders including zero length files, go figure.

Cheerio. :)

Altrea, I just download IZArc 4.1.6 (latest version) and it still does not extract zero length files from 7zip archives.

So it is useless for using with XAMPP 7zip versions but does work with the zip versions.

Cheerio. :)

You're most welcome, mate. :D

Just wondering how using IZArc to extract the 7zip archive XAMPP version will be affecting the normal running of XAMPP components generally as it contains many many (last count some years ago was in the hundreds) zero length files through out the whole release.

We normally see these file missing issues here when a disk clean-up utility, improperly configured, removes zero length files and tmp/temp files.- blah blah blah :D :D

What do you reckon Altrea, we close this topic now and mark it solved?
