PhpMyAdmin does not recognize my password

I am the first time user of XAMPP. right after I installed it, I followed a youtube instruction to setup security and what happened next is four hours trying to figure out how to access phpmyadmin with the password I just set. No matter how I tried, the access is always denied, saying my username and password is not right, which is really ridiculous. I uninstall XAMPP and reinstalled it, the problem seems to get worse, the warning says:

Error
MySQL said:
Cannot connect: invalid settings.
phpMyAdmin tried to connect to the MySQL server, and the server rejected the connection. You should check the host, username and password in your configuration and make sure that they correspond to the information given by the administrator of the MySQL server.

I change the httpd-xampp.conf "deny from all" into "Allow from all ", still it does not work.

I am getting frustrated. Please help.

Uninstall using these instruction then download the zip or 7zip version as outlined in this link:

Don't change anything in configuration files unless you know what your edits will impact on.

After following the above instructions set your phpMyAdmin/MySQL password using the Security menu item in the XAMPP Welcome (Admin) page.

Make sure you are logged in to Vista as an admin.

Please let me know back if you were able to access phpMyAdmin after setting your password using the Security menu item.
