Absolute path to relative path

Is there a way that I can change absolute paths to relative paths? My paths are generated with in the script. The script is elgg.

That depends and with that less information it is impossible to say.
Sure, you can use a good text editor to find and replace all paths in files. For database data where paths can also be stored it is much more difficult.
But in most cases the application itself should provide functionality for that.
