Upgrade to 1.7.7. keeps failing (Server 2003) [SOLVED]

I'm trying to upgrade to the new xampp 1.7.7

But after copy some setting from the old to the new config files
It failed to start Apache and MySQL.

Now I'm trying it on a test server but it keeps failing every time.
In the event viewer it says.

Code: Select all

service specific error 1 (0x1).

What did I miss ??

Or dus someone have some tips to upgrade from 1.7.3 to 1.7.7

BTW. both servers are running Windows Server 2003.

There is no upgrade from 1.7.3 to 1.7.7

You need to uninstall 1.7.3 completely the install 1.7.7 as it is compiled using a different method hence too many changes.

It is not possible to simply copy over configuration files from 1.7.3 to 1.7.7 for the same reason.
You could edit the 1.7.7 configuration files if required.

When Apache fails to start check the \xampp\apache\logs\error.log file for clues.

On both machines I did a clan install and edited the new config to match
the settings in the old. On the test I only edited te basic settings but it keeps failing.

And there's no error.log file

You may be missing the VC9 runtime file that you can download and install from here:

See if that lets you start Apache and MySQL so you can move forward.

I saw that tip on the forum earlier, no luck.

I like to add that mySQL runs for a view sec in CP 3.0.2 and that just stoppes.
Also no mtSQL log file.


Any more tips ?

Where did you install to? It is generally good to install it to the root of your drive (Ex: C:\xampp) because spaces in the install path can cause crashing issues. If you installed to a drive other than C:, you need to run the "xampp_setup.bat"

Did you use the installer? The installer has been known to have problems with missing files and such. The Zip version is generally a better install option.

Posting the contents of the Control Panel v3 log window may also provide clues.

You have to be kidding me!!!
Just reinstalled to c:/ and apache starts with no editing to the config.

I hate this kind of problems...
I serenely am working three weeks to get it running and now it'f fixed in less the a half hour

Now I have to get the config files more sync and upgrade the server thats online.

It is assumed that readers and members have read the XAMPP installation instruction.

The installation instructions in the readme_en.txt file in the xampp folder are quire clear about where to install XAMPP as are those on the Home Page:
