Access over Internet but not to phpmyadmin

Postby Lingodawg » 31. October 2011 13:40

Hello,

Yesterday I was pulling my hair out! I tried to get access to a site ive built (which is using MySQL) over internet. However, I read up on a lot of sites and changed hppd-conf file to allow all. Anyway, the problem seemed to be with the computer I was trying on, I could not access the site using external adress while I was on the same lan! I tried with another conncetion and it worked fine.

So at the moment I have a great setup with dyndns and everything working, the only problem is that I can access the whoel xampp site (including phpmyadmin) from the Internet. How do I solve this security issue? Basically what I want is for anyone on the Internet to be able to access my sites but not phpmyadmin, xampp and so on. Anyone know how I should set this up?

XAMPP 1.7.2 is an old version. Is there any reason why you should not install the new 1.7.7 version?

Well you changed the httpd.conf file to Allow all (bad mistake) so you must not do this or you will open your XAMPP for anyone to hack you.

You need to return the httpd default directory back to Deny from all before allowing access to the Internet again.

Tell us about your hair pulling issue in detail as we may be able to help solve it for you.
