Gallery 2 and GD JPG file extension

Postby Randyrls » 26. October 2011 16:06

I am having a bit of an issue with Gallery V2 and the GD graphics package included with XAMPP 1.7.7 When I upload an image file like "File.jpg" Gallery doesn't create a thumbnail for the image. It looks like it has to do with the mime types in GD. If I rename the file to "File.jpeg" it does create a thumbnail for the image.

Is there a way to add the mime type image/jpg to GD?
Can I install a GD package into XAMPP?
Can I install GD, or FFMPEG or NetPBM To correct the issue?
NetPBM isn't included on the Windows build of XAMPP, but can this work?

Thanks for any assistance or insight you can provide.
The GD Listing in Gallery says:
Supported MIME Types
The Gd module will support files with the following MIME types:
image/gif
image/jpeg
image/png
image/vnd.wap.wbmp
image/x-xbitmap

My system:
XAMPP 1.7.7
Gallery 2.3.1
Windows XP SP3

Why not simply batch rename all the .jpg files to the correct .jpeg file extension? 8)

GD is compiled into PHP which in turn is compiled as a module of Apache, so AFAIK, no to GD install manually.

FFMPEG installation may be found in an advanced forum search.

I am not familiar with NetPBM but I did notice a Windows dll version is available but can't help with integrating it into XAMPP - you may have to research and experiment.

Sorry I can't be more help but the batch rename looks the simplest solution from where I sit. ;)

Good luck. :)

look in /apace/conf/mime.types for this line

Code: Select all
image/jpeg               jpeg jpg jpe

see if your line 'looks like' that one

that is what is supposed to associate the file extension(s) with mime type.

Good Luck

That's true for most things Apache but GD supports it's own mime types list which overrides the apache/conf/mime.types (the default list in 1.7.7 version).
