You don't need to add the /xampp/htdocs to the URL address just use http://locahost and it should work without a 404 error as per the readme_en.txt file in the xampp folder..

Good luck :)

http://localhost is the htdocs folder.

What exactly have you put in the htdocs folder that you want to see and did you read the readme file?

Also please read the forum announcements before posting.

Thank you, I am new to this forum and xampp so I didn't know but now I do..thank you.
I will start from the beginning ...
I am Running XAMPP 1.77 on Win XP
I am also running IIs
I need to be able to run IIs and XAMPP together.

My question basically is.....how do I configure XAMPP to play nice with IIs?
I have changed the port in XAMPP to :8080 so they both don't share :80....is there anything else I need to do?
My end goal is to play with Wordpress on my local system.
So I know in advanced..what should I type in the address bar in Firefox to get to the htdocs with wordpress? I have named the wordpress folder in htdocs "wordpress".
should it be "localhost:8080/xampp/htdocs/wordpress"

Thank You for all of your help, again, I am new to this forum and XAMPP.

Your welcome Yiani and thanks for your detailed post.

http://localhost:8080/wordpress
or
http://localhost:8080/wordpress/index.php
Should find the index.php file in the wordpress folder which you placed in the htdocs folder which is the Apache server's DocumentRoot.

I would also edit this line in the httpd.conf file to save having a conflict on port 443 the HTTPS port, that is if you don't wish to use HTTPS, most don't if they are developing a Wordpress site:
Code: Select all
# Secure (SSL/TLS) connections
# Include "conf/extra/httpd-ssl.conf"
Change it so it looks like the code above.
Save the file and restart Apache.

If you require to use HTTPS then leave that line and edit the mentioned file by changing all port 443 references to port 4433.

You also might like to use the new version 3 Control Panel xampp-control-3-beta.exe found in the xampp folder, instead of the older less featured Control Panel.

Good luck. :)

I GOT IT WORKING!! I'm happy :)

Thanks for your help!
I figured out my issue..
I was going to "localhost:8080/xampp/wordpress" which gave me the Error 404
Instead of going to "localhost:8080/wordpress"

Also..I took your advice and used the new control panel v3.0.2 and that is awesome!

Thanks again for your time and help, I really appreciate it!
