[solved]New to XAMPP

Postby newto » 22. September 2011 12:35

Hello everyone

I am new to XAMPP, as I am new to making ecommerce websites :? It would seem that I need a version of XAMPP that has PHP 5.3.8 or earlier, and MySQL 5.0.51a. These are the versions that my webhost are using at present. Which XAMPP version would I need for these please.

Kind regards

There is no XAMPP to those specs.

Here is the latest version details and you will see the php version is fine but the MySQL is much newer
readme wrote:###### ApacheFriends XAMPP version 1.7.7 ######

+ MySQL 5.5.16 (Community Server)
+ PHP 5.3.8 (VC9 X86 32bit thread safe) + PEAR

+ (BETA) XAMPP Control Panel Version 3.0.2 by Steffen Strueber (not in the USB & lite version)
see viewtopic.php?f=16&t=46743
+ XAMPP Security

Good luck :)

Hi Sharley

Thank you very much for your reply, very informative and reassuring. Can you possibly forecast any issues I might have please? My web host told me that any later versions of either won't work with theirs. Now, my common sense tells me that the answer is in what they said, but if I am only using the XAMPP on my pc as a test server, when I put my files on their server, my files will be ok on their versions?

Kind Regards

Hello Newto,

The answer from your hosting service would more than likely be correct for MySQL.

You can try and find an older version of XAMPP that has the required MySQL version included from here:
SourceForge XAMPP File Repository

On the right of the files there is a clickable link that on some files may give their content versions.

Using an older version of Apache should not be a concern on localhost development.

Sorry, I have never been able to foresee the future even though on occasions I have been called an old witch, so can't help with any predictions or forecasts.

Hello Sharley

Sorry it has been a while, been very busy with my son, and my computer decided it had had enough which was an absolute nightmare. Got a new computer sorted now, (second hand), I had to do some work on it, reinstall the OS etc etc, put new ram in it, and it is working like a dream, so I am up and running again. Very fortunately, the people I am doing the e-commerce site for have been very understanding and patient, which has certainly helped.

Thankyou very much for your reply which is very informative and helpful again. I will go and look for the right version for me. I have updated my profile and it now shows my operating system, I will put what version of XAMPP I have when I have found it.

Such a shame you can't forecast the future :-)

Kind regards, and speak soon

Simon
