What name should I give my joomla installation directory to be able to navigate to it from the internet ,outside my network using my domain name (mysite.com). Does mysite.com need to be the name of the installation folder in htdocs?

You can name it whatever you want.

maybe I just answered my own question. I gave them a name/ url during joomla installation I think. Thanks again for the help!

I hope you don't use a standard XAMPP without hardening it for that.
Otherwise your server can be transmuted to a zombie server in less than 3 seconds.

Well i will have to work on that hardening thing. If you have advice or know of a good tutorial i would be obliged.

Why do so many people think server security is an easy thing with just one correct answer you can simply put into a forum post or tutorial?

There are so many hosters out there where you can get security and space for just a few bucks.

Once again you are correct. This whole experience has been way over my head. I build things out of steel for a living, not words and pictures. But I have muddled thru this far and have a site that still needs a lot of work but is better than I had and I am not going to quit now.
