XAMPP Control Panel App can't start MySQL

Postby darius » 11. September 2011 11:08

I am really sorry,
but there is problem with mysql configuration coming with XAMPP stack.

XAMPP Control Panel Application can't start MySql to work.

Apache is ok
FileZilla is ok
Mercury is ok

but MySql is badly configured

I would like someone to repackage and preconfigure mysql to work out of the box if installed by XAMPP
into default directory.

All in one not to waste time.

The problem is my.ini configuration file,
the problem is socket,
the problem is phpmyadmin is running from command line
but telnet port doesn't work
so opening
https://localhost/phpmyadmin/

Welcome to phpMyAdmin

Error

MySQL said: Documentation
#2002 - The server is not responding (or the local MySQL server's socket is not correctly configured)
Connection for controluser as defined in your configuration failed.

I am really surprised , with some many triads or quads (php, apache, mysql, .....)
mysql is still badly preconfigured
never starting out of the box

Wow,

I am so, so sorry it did not instantly work for you! I will get everyone working right away. Maybe they can make it better. And , as Sir John Geilgud asked, "Shall I alert the media?". "it is what I live for".

However, it must be said - probably 95+ % of the time XAMPP DOES just work.

If you want help, you will have to give better information about the situation. Such as - what windows version, which XAMPP version. how you tried to install it, etc.

Good Luck

My dear friend,

XAMPP for Windows XP.

apache is on,
FileZilla is on,
Mercury is on

MySql is down

The bug is in mysql_installservice.bat file, since it can install mysqld with any defaults file
and MySql installed message is ECHO generated and has nothing with Windows reality, since web browser can't connect to mysql's port

==
C:\xampp\mysql\bin>mysqld –remove MySql
Service successfully removed.

C:\xampp\mysql\bin>mysqld --install
Service successfully installed.
==

So just tell me what is a default xampp directory
to have mysql to work out of the box.

Is Windows XP = WinNT
in mysql_installservice.bat file ?

Another issue is with my.ini file.

It can sit in

c:\Windows
C:\xampp\mysql\bin
C:\xampp\mysql

I have configured my.ini with hard links
=====

# The following options will be passed to all MySQL clients
[client]
# password = your_password
port = 3306
socket = c:/xampp/tmp/mysql.sock

# Here follows entries for some specific programs

# The MySQL server
[mysqld]
basedir= c:/xampp/mysql/
tmpdir= c:/xampp/tmp/
datadir= c:/xampp/mysql/data/

port = 3306
socket = c:/xampp/tmp/mysql.sock

===
Any idea ?

the default xampp directory is detected by the installer or setup-xampp.bat (which will 'fix' all the default locations based on the current working directory from which it is launched). Its a tool for moving an XAMPP installation on a machine. In fact, running that might fix your problem. - might, not 'for sure' -

If you edited my.ini, then try the default settings by copying it from the DL. The my.ini file XAMPP wants to use is the one in '\xampp\mysql\bin\

You should not have to use ANY on these tools actually - that is what the XAMPP Control Panel is for.

Of course I also have no idea why you are trying to use telnet either. Is this a remote machine or something???

I think you have probably broken a lot of stuff, probably accidentally.

Ok, downloaded xampp again and installed on d:\xampp
run xampp to see it works
than copied my.ini (replaced D: to C:)
copied
mysql_installservice.bat (still coming with default c: path)
than started xampp on c:
and xampp control panel app
and job done ;)

One problem is my databases are lost, not showing up in left panel in
http://127.0.0.1/phpmyadmin/

Any way to learn my databases still sit somewhere and can be accessed,
since I am back with the same apache, php, mysql
and configuration didn't change

default file/ directory for mysql's databases in Windows XP ?
