I will try downloading the new control panel. As far as the error logs go, and I should have put this in my post above, but the error.log it is empty.

Thanks,

OK I downloaded the new control Panel, and it still does not work, my error.log is still empty. When I click the netstat button, nothing showing port 80 or 8080 being used. the output on the control panel shows the following:
Code: Select all
12:35:38 PM  [main]    Initializing moduls
12:35:38 PM  [main]    Starting check-timer
12:35:46 PM  [apache]    Starting apache app...
12:35:46 PM  [apache]    Status change detected: running
12:35:46 PM  [apache]    Status change detected: stopped

I am not sure what else to do to solve this problem.

Well - for starters - lets get back to the original XAMPP httpd.conf (from the download) - then we will have a common ground.

If Apache and MySQL are set to start as services, uncheck/uninstall the services. Reboot.

Try restoring the original httpd.conf. copy it from your download, and replace the one you have edited/hacked up. (should be in \xampp\apache\conf usually)

Did you edit any of the other Apache .conf files in \xampp\apache\conf\extra?? If so, put back their original versions.

When this is done - Try manually starting Apache with the new Control Panel.

Good Luck

OK followed your instructions, services are not checked (reboot the machine), replaced both the http.conf and the httpd-ssl.conf files back to their downloaded "original state" and attempted to start Apache with the new control panel as administrator.

Apache just stops or crashes, e.g: "Apache HTTP Server has stopped working, A problem caoused the program to stop........."
My error.log file is still empty.

I found an older version of xampp 1.7.1 on a thumb drive i was using a year or so ago, I plugged that in and it runs fine, no issues, however the 1.7.4 seems to have issues.

Thanks.

Well there is some good news

XAMPP for Windows 1.7.5 is here. I DL'ed it and had it install flawlessly. It even includes the new Control Panel (called '-beta') in the root of XAMPP.

I haven't tested all the varieties of installs or the lite version, but it seems pretty nice. (1.7.3 is also rock solid)

Good Luck

Thanks JonB. I was looking for a solution to my Apache's inability to start. This new version really did the job. :)
