Apache can't start.

Problems with the Windows version of XAMPP, questions, comments, and anything related.

Apache can't start.

Postby UZAKO » 03. September 2011 06:22

I have a laptop computer made by "mouse computer" Inc. This OS is Windows7.
I downloaded XAMPP installer version1.7.4 from XAMPP Homepage.
I can't stop MySQL and strat Apache now. MySQL is already Running on XAMPP Control Panel.
Apache Admin button can't click on XAMPP Control Panel.
I click Stop button for MySQL, display message
ERROR: MySQL service not stopped [-1]
I click Start button for Apche, display message
ERROR: Apache service not started [-1]

When I started XAMPP Control Panel at first time, Apache and MySQL are started already.
I can't Click Stop Apache and MySQL. If I clicked Stop button, display message
ERROR: MySQL(Apache) service not stopped [-1]
I tryed access "", I can see "Welcom to XAMPP".
I edited httpd.conf(c:/xampp/apache/conf/httpd.conf) like next
<Directory "C:/xampp/htdocs">
Order deny,allow
Deny from All
Allow from localhost
<Directory "C:/xampp/cgi-bin">
AllowOverride Non
Option None
Order deny,allow
Deny form All
Allow from localhost
I clicked "security" in left menu on "Welcome to XAMPP" page .
I clicked link "http://localhost/security/xamppsecurity.php".
Input username and password on XAMPP directory control(.htaccess), and clicked button.
I accessed again "", display login dialog. I successed login.
I made HTML file and PHP file. HTML file is test page. PHP file was only to confirm PHP version.
I accessed HTML file and PHP file, I confirmed both HTML page and PHP page.
Next I edited "php.ini", I edited "mbstring.language = Japanese" activity.
I tryed to restart Apache and to confirm mbstring.language is Japanese, but I can't restart Apache.
I tryed to shutdown Windows7 to stop Apache, powered on computer to confirm PHP page.
But PHP imformation isn't changed.

Please tell me how to solution this problem.
I'm a normal Japanese, so I'm not good at to read and to write English. I can't understood all to relate to terms.
But I won't do problem. Please comment easy English. I will examine comment, and operate computer.

Did you install either MySQL or Apache on this machine, or a suite like WAMP, before you installed XAMPP??

What directory did you install XAMPP into?

In Computer > Manage > Services, highlight Apache 2.2, and get its properties, by right-click - see if the location of httpd.exe is the same as the folder you installed XAMPP in.

Good Luck

sounds like you have another instance of mysql running from either WAMP or a stand-alone verison...

ctr+alt+delete and see if you can find mysqld.exe running. If you can, kill it.
