I have installed XAMPP and I am running the XAMPP Control Panel. I receive the following in the Control Panel box:

Current Directory: c:\xampp
Install(er) Directory: c:\xampp
ERROR: Status Check Failure [3]
This program must be run from your XAMPP root directory.

What does this mean? How can I fix this?

Hello Ken.

There is a harmless irrelevant bug in the release version of the CP which may be ignored.

Or if you prefer, please download the superior Version 3 Control Panel from my signature and extract only the exe file to the installation folder of XAMPP, usually C:\xampp, then double click on it to use the v3 CP instead of the release version - make sure you have clicked on the EXIT button to close off the release version of the CP.

The v3 CP topic can be found here:
