How to configure php in xampp 1.7.4

Postby dEhiN » 20. August 2011 07:00

Hi, I just installed XAMPP 1.7.4 on Windows 7 32-bit (installed to C:\Servers\xampp). I want to install Joomla 1.7 to learn Joomla. I unzipped Joomla 1.7 to C:\Servers\xampp\htdocs\joomla. I then opened my web browser and went to localhost/joomla, which initially takes me through the installation process. But I'm encountering a problem. There are some settings for PHP which Joomla recommends, and I don't meet all of them. When I first tried to complete the setup process I figured this shouldn't be a problem, so I finished installing Joomla. But then when I try and go to the site, I get a page which lists a bunch of errors. So I'm thinking the configuration of PHP is causing this problem.

The two settings which Joomla recommends and which I don't meet are: (1) Having display errors off, and (2) having output buffering off.

So how do I edit/configure my php installation to turn off displaying errors and output buffering?

PS. I'm fairly certain this is the issue as the Joomla installation process is fairly straightforward, and I created a MySQL database using phpMyAdmin, and I made sure Joomla was using the correct username and password for the database. As well the installation process lets me populate the database with default content, which I did. Even with that I was getting errors when I tried to visit the site.

Hi, I solved this issue just now. I found a thread on the Joomla forums which detailed how to edit the php.ini file to deal with the error reporting. And the solution worked! For anyone else reading this and having the same problem, check out http://forum.joomla.org/viewtopic.php?f=615&t=635868.
