I am runing on win 7 64 bit but im using the previous version 1.7.3.

U will find a number of postings here with various problems with the latest version. It is important to run the installer as an admin and install in directory xampp in the root.

This question is asked very very often here.
There is a bug in the control panel in XAMPP version 1.7.4.
The message can simply clicked away and all will be fine.
There are some ways to get rid of that message. The easiest way is to download, extract and use the new control panel v3.0.2. Simply extract that file in your XAMPP installation folder
