apache started but localhost not working

I have found xampp great since I got it 6 months ago, but in the last 2 days I have had a series of problems with phpmyadmin (i have posted another topic with the problems).

So i downloaded the new xampp, and lo and behold, another problem - http://localhost/xampp/ gives an error "Firefox can't establish a connection to the server at localhost."

I was using xampp1.7.3 and the only way i could type apache was click on "shell" and type "xampp_cli start xampp". With the new xampp, this is gone, i cannot get into the shell.. So instead I click "start" with "svc" clicked. It says "Apache service started". But i cant connect to http://localhost/xampp/

Then when i unclick svc abd click start, it says "Apache started [port 80]" but again nothing when I go to http://localhost/xampp/

Im a web designer and am not good with this sort of stuff. With the old xampp, i could just use shell to start the services. But with new one I cant.

Im running the latest xampp on Windows 7...

problem solved.

i installed xampp on my d drive instead and for some reason it worked!
