openssl - does this work?

yo everyone!
i've done some research on google and this forum on how to get ssl working for xampp and eventually i've added the line "extension=php_openssl.dll " to xampp/php/php.ini (the php.ini file has moved in the recent versions i believe).
i haven't had any experience with this ssl und would like to know if i've done it correctly. how do i test if it works properly?
