Problems with the Windows version of XAMPP, questions, comments, and anything related.

Hey,
I'm new to all of this and don't really know what I'm doing. I want to be able to send emails from my Joomla website but it says that it could not connect to the SMTP host. I have activated Mercury in the XAMPP control panel but it still doesn't say its activated when I go to localhost/xampp.
Could someone please help me?
Thanks
Katie

To send email from a php script you don't need Mercury Mail.
See this post that just about covers what you need to do:

I think there are Mercury Mail and FileZilla FTP Server already included in the Xampp package. You can just run those and you'll already have SMTP and FTP services running on your local machine. If you want to test it LIVE on the internet, I think you must have a static or public IP address.
