Hey, i'm new to all this forum stuff.
But i have a problem, i installed xampp.
and when i start the apache and mysql,
it says it worked and all that, no errors and all. but when i press the admin buttons.
it's just says server not found in my browser. i tried port checking and it says all are open.
so i really dont understand why it is, the server is not up, i just need the apache/mysql for my school work nothing fancy,
ikno how to use it, but to install it seems like a totally different story.

hope it was enough info. will check in the morning for questions.. if you got some that is

So both Apache and MySQL are showing a green running indication in the Control Panel?

If so check the \xampp\apache\logs\error.log file for clues.

What do you see when you type http://localhost in your browser?

BTW in XAMPP 1.7.4 the MySQL Admin button in the Control Panel is disabled but the Apache Admin button should work.

I dont have a clue, what to look after in the error log. but nothing seems wrong no "ERRORS" like that

When i try to enter that localhost, or phpMyadmin it just says server not found(using firefox) it does not come up with a actual error

yea iknow the thing about the button that been disabled thought it were a bug so installed the 1.7.3 light version hoping it worked.

i can install the normal 1.7.4 again but had some weird error about some root directory i could not fix.

i'm not experienced in looking for bugs.

Stay with 1.7.3 for now.

How did you install it and did you answer the questions asked by selecting the defaults?

Run setup_xampp.bat file again and let me know what answers you use.

The Control Panel in 1.7.3 is not faulty and both Admin buttons will work.

Paste here the section of the error.log file that relates to the date and time you last tried to run Apache using the Control Panel and again does the control panel show running in green next to Apache and MySQL?

If you want to uninstall any edition of XAMPP and start again do not install over the old XAMPP but remove the folder as explained in this post:

Log looks fine.
Answer no to a portable installation which means you are going to install to a USB portable device and accept the timezone default.

If all else fails uninstall as per the instructions and install again.

BTW you are logged in to your PC as an administrator?

I can only assume that you did this correctly as I can't see your PC screen from here and you seem not to want to give details so we can try and understand what you are doing wrong - the more detail the better, less detail means we can only stab at a guess.

What location are you trying to install XAMPP to - give details?
(You had an issue with root directory, what issue was that - details)?

What Windows OS are you using?

Didn't meen to not give details

Using windows 7 64bit

When i installed it in program files i got this error 'XAMPP Component Status Check Failure [3]. Run this program only from your XAMPP root directory.'

and yes i used that guide of ur to uninstall the program.

right now i'm trying to install it on a external harddisc. when i did that it didn't give me that status check failiure, and that's when i asked here on the forum.

hope it was enough details. trying my best here xD
