64 bit clarification, please

Postby xerces8 » 15. March 2011 19:48

On the download pages* there is no mention of "bitness", while in the downloaded readme_en.txt it says:

* System Requirements:

+ Windows NT, 2000, 2003, XP (RECOMMENDED), VISTA
+ Only 32 Bit (NOT for 64 bit systems)

If 64 bit systems are not supported, why is there no mention of this fact on the web page?

If they are supported, well I'm still confused. Is there a separate package?

Also Windows 7 is not mentioned. Is it supported? In 32 bit only?

(by "supported" I mean "it is designed/known to work")

Regards,
David

1.7.4 is well reported on these forums both in English and German languages that it works fine on both 32bit, 64bit and Win7 systems if your systems are not experiencing any issues before installing XAMPP and those who have had issues have usually solved them by uninstalling the installer version and then downloading and extracting the zip/7zip archive version as per the instructions in the readme file..

In the readme that says NOT for 64 bit systems? ;)

I installed straight from the ZIP, but apache refused to start.
After that I googled and found a lot of problems reported with 64 bit systems. Together with the line from the README, I guessed 64 bit is not supported.

We then used a 32 bit Vista, so for me the issue is more or less closed.

I still suggest clarifying the description.

I am using xmpp 1.7.3 on windows 7 64 bit without any problems and installed it using the installer. I used the default location in C:/xampp.
