linked tables problem

I have installed XAMPP onto my new computer running windows 7.
When I go into phpMyAdmin it starts up OK but then displays The additional features for working with linked tables have been deactivated.
I have gone into the config and added $cfg['Servers'][$i]['tracking'] = ‘pma_tracking’; I have cleared the cookies, and restarted xampp but still no joy.

Any help would be very gratefully received.

I have now done the following but still no joy

Copied & pasted the contents of xampp\phpMyAdmin\scripts\create_tables.sql in phpmyadmin and execute it. That will create a missing table.

Edit xampp\phpMyAdmin\config.inc.php and add this after line 41

$cfg['Servers'][$i]['tracking'] = 'pma_tracking';


Cleared all cookies. Not totally convinced on this one as even although I have cleared all cookies XAMPP is still remembering all my user names and passwords.

ANy help would be very gratefully received as I have been at this off and on for about a week.

1.7.4 phpMyAdmin config.inc.php is already set up to link tables using the Designer button - just tested it before posting this reply. See below for the included config.inc file.

One solution I read on this forum was to run XAMPP as an administrator or perhaps he meant install XAMPP exe file as an administrator.

There have been issues with 1.7.4 with Win7 using the installer exe version and others have had great success by uninstalling the exe version and downloading the zip version, then running the setup_xampp.bat file from the xampp folder.

This is the config.inc.php from the XAMPP 1.7.4 zip file version with no changes made from the original so you can compare.

I will try to reinstall from the zip version and see how that goes.

Make sure that you do a complete clean uninstall of your previous version before trying to extract and setup the zip version.

Thanks for your help.

I reinstalled from the zip version and still had the same problem plus mysql would not start. Then I remembered I had an old version of XAMPP and installed that and everything is up and running, wish I had thought of that earlier as I have been at this for two days. I have installed XAMPP quite a few times and never had any problems before!

Now all I have to do is get concrete5 up and running.
