mercury sending as spam

I set up mercury mail to send to just 1 local account on my machine for testing.
It works great but in the mail client the mail comes in as spam and the text is all encoded. I tried changing encodings in the mail clients and it doesn't work. I have also added the sender as a contact and marked the mail as not junk. I am on windows 7 and using microsoft mail live and mozilla thunderbird and keep getting the same effect.
any ideas?

I think it is flagged as spam (in your clients) because of the strange encoding. How do you send the mail? If with php, please post the code.
