XAMPP 1.7.4 - MySQL problems after computer crash

After a reboot, preceded by my computer crashing, I was no longer able to start the XAMPP MySQL service, leaving my development platform inoperable.

After starting the MySQL service through the XAMPP Control Panel, the mysql_error log file will report something like this:

Apache has continued to work, but I cannot access any XAMPP tools, such as phpMyAdmin. My web development platform is Joomla 1.5.22, if that matters. Does anyone have any idea how to fix this? I'm somewhat scared, as I have no backup MySQL tables, and have put considerably hours into development in the past several days. I would love a solution to either export what I have to a new XAMPP installation, or to simply fix what I have now, if possible.

I am also facing the same problem. mine was not after a computer crash though. It started after I reinstalled Xampp 1.7.4. the error shown in mysql_error log is:

Please help on this, the site am developing is now overdue.

The other problem I am facing is that after i installed Xampp on a diferent computer mysql is working just fine, but when installing Joomla 1.6 am getting an error (at sate 4: Database) saying:

Could not connect to the database. Connector returned number: Unable to connect to the Database: Could not connect to MySQL.

I dont knw what to do know. i have run out of ideas. Please help.
