localhost not responding

Postby geojay » 03. February 2011 00:43

I'm getting no response on localhost, I hadn't used XAMPP for about a year so I tried reinstalling and get the same problem. Firefox simply returns:
Unable to connect
Firefox can't establish a connection to the server at localhost.

netstat -a -b -n -o in a command window indicates that httpd.exe is listening and the PID matches the PID of the httpd.exe process which starts when I start Apache in XAMPP.

I'm not sure what else to try...

Any suggestions on how to proceed?

Many thanks!

Are there any clues in the \xampp\apache\logs\error.log file?

Are there any similarities in these Advanced forum search results?

Good luck.

Hi,
error.log is empty and I don't think it's a Firefox problem as IE gives a similar response. I've also noticed that when Apache is running, the computer slows to a crawl even though the CPU usage seems normal.
XAMPP is installed on a memory stick and the same installation works fine on a laptop!

Any other diagnosis I can try?

Many thanks,
Geoff

I have no antivirus to interfere with it, skype is not using port 80...

I have Avast, I've tried turning this and Windows firewall off but still it wouldn't work. I've also stopped Skype listening on port 80 (and stopped it too).

There must be some way to actual diagnose this issue and work out what the problem is?

Many thanks!
