Apache needs restarting to work

Postby simmetry67 » 18. January 2011 16:41

I've noticed that after starting Apache, it will work for a while but then need restarting to work again. My installation is basically the default install. I've tried disabling virus protection but this has not worked. Please assist. Thank you for your assistance.

Any clues in the \xampp\apache\logs\error.log file?

That looks normal, no errors - you say you shut it down and restarted it and the log file reflects that. You need to look for entries after Apache stops by itself.

Look in the Windows Event Viewer under Applications and see if there are any clues why httpd.exe is stopping.

Check the error.log file immediately after Apache stops also temporarily disable your anti-virus scanner to see if that is affecting things - activate again the anti-virus scanner if it has no effect.

I'm baffled,
The Event Viewer looks clean for Applications and System?

These 'weird or what' issues are frustrating indeed.

Try this:
Open the XAMPP Control Panel, Stop Apache and MySQL if they are running and remove any ticks in the Svc boxes.

Then do a reboot and Start Apache and MySQL again but make sure there are no ticks in the Svc boxes.

See if Apache keeps running.

That, was very good timing. Just before I read your post, I shut down MySQL; the reason being, I have Oracle XE running also. I hope that is the issue. I'll test it for a while and post the results. Thanks.

If it was a MySQL conflict then look in the \xampp\mysql\data\mysql.err file for any clues, by dragging it into your text editor.

That looks normal, no [error]s.

So only time will tell if Oracle was at fault.

Good luck and please let us know if you solve the mystery.

Best wishes.
