failure directory listing of the root directory

Problems with the Windows version of XAMPP, questions, comments, and anything related.

failure directory listing of the root directory

Postby nonono » 09. November 2010 20:07

I have installed XAMMP 1.7.3 on my USB flash drive and it looks that it works fine.
Then I wanted to try a nice directory listing from the following link:

PHP Directory Listing Script (index.php + dlf folder)
http://www.evoluted.net/community/code/directorylisting.php
and copied the index.php file + dlf folder to the htdocs folder.

Instead of a nice directory listing of the root, the text of the content of the index.php file was displayed in the browser.
This means that something must be changed in the settings (Apache?, PHP?) ?
But what?

Thanks Nono

Can you Google 'PHP Short Open Tags'?

Just Google "php short open tag" and you will learn why this is a poor idea (as if you don't already know - you had to ask why the script doesn't work, right?)

In the mean time - locate this line in your php.ini found in \xammp\php

short_open_tag = Off

and make the value On

Save the file

restart Apache

Then FIX the code.

From The Excruciatingly Correct Guide

Good Luck

Thanks for the solution. It works perfect!

You said: you had to ask why the script doesn't work, right?
But the script worked on my external server therefore the other title.

Anyway thanks again :D
