Xamap test page is working but php have problem !

I installed the xamap on the Windows XP sp3 , the xamap test page that is also a php file working good ! , but when I inquire for getting the PHP info by creating the the file test.php as :

phpinfo();
?>
the IE after runing the http://localhost/test.php show error 404 ( Object not found!)
I should mention that I added the file test.php on the "C:\xampp\htdocs" ( that is my local host root )
another things is that xamap test page show php info corectly !
SO I think there must be a problem related with my PHP
