XAMPP stops running

I have XAMPP installed and running on my win 7 64 bit machine for a local install of Joomla!
All runs fine for a short period but for some reason XAMPP stops running as I can't view my php files in Dreamweaver's (CS5) live view or in Firefox browser.
If I go through the process of re-installing XAMPP it works .... for a while then stops. Very frustrating as I'm trying to learn php and Joomla!
Can someone help me out here please.
