setting a password for user '.root'.

Hello Friends,

I am relatively new to this, and upon entering PHPMyAdmin, I was confronted with this message:

"Your configuration file contains settings (root with no password) that correspond to the default MySQL privileged account. Your MySQL server is running with this default, is open to intrusion, and you really should fix this security hole by setting a password for user '.root'."

What exactly does this mean and how do I go about changing the password for user .root?

Also - Where do I sign into my SQL Database? I remember doing this several months ago, which is the last time I was fiddling with PHP in General..

Thank you in Advance!
