I too am running into the same problem. I've tried changing the port that Apache listens on (to 8666), but it will not start from control panel.

If I use port 8666 I can get it to start as a service. However, Portcheck appears to show that it is trying to use port 80 anyway? (http://localhost:8666 does work)

Thanks

Well - it would be useful to know what version of Windows and XAMPP you have installed.

I'm afraid my SpockRemoteMinMeld does not work with your configuration

:?:

Good Luck

that's a good one, thanks

Maybe we could incorporate it into the register option for Apache Friends - somehow forcing them to read through, spoon fed like the old Windows EUA 'F8 to continue' one page at a time.

Seriously though - closing topics also helps prevent tag-on posters (I still can't get people to do that either).

Another poster jumped on an open thread and posted a problem with no info (katzinAZ), so the comments weren't addressed to you, take the chiil pill :) (and read the thread b4 u get in a tizzy LOL)

Note this: I don't see anywhere in this text or the Post Title where it says what version of XAMPP you are running.
when i click on start button on the control panel to start apache and mysql i cant see the running tag in front..although i tried disabling UAC for windows from control panel of windows...what i get in the view screen below the xampp control buttons is this :--- busy..... apache services started....but when i check services from the windows control panel it shows that apache is not started...i tried changing port number of apache in httpd.conf ......pleeeeese help..... when i click on start button on the control panel to start apache and mysql i cant see the running tag in front..although i tried disabling UAC for windows from control panel of windows...what i get in the view screen below the xampp control buttons is this :--- busy..... apache services started....but when i check services from the windows control panel it shows that apache is not started...i tried changing port number of apache in httpd.conf ......pleeeeese help.....

BTW - I am aware that is a problem with the BETA version of XAMPP (Apache does not show as running) - BUUUUUT - you are supposed to post Beta problems in the form rpovided on the Beta page.
http://www.apachefriends.org/en/xampp-beta.html

Please send us your experiences and your opinion about the beta version you downloaded.

Please provide your e-mail address. In some cases we may need to ask you one or two questions about your config
.

What is the version number on your XAMPP page or in the readme_en.txt :?:

Its 100% impossible to diagnose a services related problem without knowing the application version, they are all different.

Good Luck

XAMPP latest 1.7.3 or 1.7.4beta?
win7 - 32 or 64 ?

a board search "win7" will show you a lot of hints

Hyper - nice Cut and Paste job - when you can tell your own story, let me know.

everyone else -

I suspect this is a 'cosmetic issue' -
meaning that the server is working, but the reporting system (Control Panel) in this case is not reporting the correct state.

Apache2.2 will ONLY appear in the Windows Services Manager if you have used the Svc checkbox and OK'd the dialogue.

the 'right way to check' if Apache is running (either as a service or as an application) is to look in Task Manager (Ctrl Shft Esc)- see if there are two httpd.exe Processes running -- if there are, Apache is running.

:)

Well, I can confirm that C:\Program Files (x86)\Xampp is not a good place for Xampp (1.7.3) under Windows 7 64-bit. The symptoms are puzzling, though: MySQL and Apache appear to start but do not. No error log is generated.

I moved everything to C:\Xampp, had the control panel (not a true control panel, by the way) rebuild the paths, and this time MySQL and Apache started correctly. The little green running lights came on, and the browser could read the pages.

Just my experience.
