Installation on Win7

Postby johnjd » 19. August 2010 02:05

Something is wrong with the XAMPP installation :-(

I get the above message when typing in: file:///C:/xampp/htdocs/index.php

In my XAMPP control panel, everything is running properly I believe.

I can not access any pages (php) and when trying to type in http://localhost/phpinfo.php, I end up with the browser (firefox).

I do get a page when I type: file:///C:/xampp/htdocs/index.html

No, there is nothing with Xampp - you are lacking most basic knowledge about HTTP.

This is your fault, dont enter file: protocoll, you MUST use http: instead. Simply try http://localhost/index.php instead.

I wish it was that simple. When I type in "http://localhost/index.php" and hit enter, the browser changes to http://www.localhost.com/index.php automatically. Could it be a setting in the browser? Same thing if I use IE instead of Firefox. The services are all running on XAMPP.

does http://127.0.0.1 work?
and what does your hosts file look like? You should have two entries :

127.0.0.1 localhost
::1 localhost

Though the solution may be to comment out or remove the IPv6 entry (::1).

yes, http://127.0.0.1 works. Thank you. Interesting, I have also installed the XAMPP on my other computer and all of that works fine. For some reason I mush have something configured wrong on this machine. I copied over the XAMPP directory to the non-working machine and still the same results. It likes to stick in 'www' and '.com' if I put in 'localhost'. I can type in http://127.0.0.1/xampp/phpinfo.php and that page works well too.

Is you other machine a windows 7 install? If not, it may be that IPv6 isn't installed on it. If you don't need IPv6 then disable/uninstall it.
