phpMyAdmin-error

When I go to http://localhost/phpmyadmin/, I keep getting the message "Cannot start session without errors, please check errors given in your PHP and/or webserver log file and configure your PHP installation properly." It worked originally, but after I set up my 1st database and added a password to "root", I keep getting the above message. Can someone please tell me how to fix this?
