error messages

hi

I know this message or similar has been posted a lot. It says on my local host that sql is deaactivated. When I click start on the control panel it says busy. When i go to php my admin its all ok and ive managed to create a database, not sure if this is all ok! I had problems before using xampp, i couldnt remember my passwords etc so deleted it all from the computer before reinstalling it again.

ive looked at the error file and this is what i got:

before I go any further what should I do to make sure I've got a proper install? I'm actually using xampp to use joomla so I'd like to make sure that everything is ok from the beginning as this is my second attempt. any help would be appreciated. I'm using vista if that makes a differene

I recently had a similar problem...

what i had to do is a complete new installation. and start from scratch.

I deleted the entire xampp directory and ran ccleaner in order to get rid of any issues in the registry as well as internet cache.

From there I had to start over from Xampp's start page and establish a new password and all.

Then attempt to recreate the database that I had.

yeah i did, ive got a joomla site online and wanted to work on it on my local server to make changes before reuploading it. I've not managed to do this yet. I'd previously installed joomla and used it locally using xampp but havent managed to figure out how to copy the site I have online to my local server. I couldnt remember any of the passwords for the local installation so thought it'd be better if i removed xampp and then redownloaded it and began again afresh. According to what I found online all I had to do to remove it was remove the xampp folder, maybe I'm wrong. I struggled to remove it as I have vista. I disabled the user access control (think thats what its called) as I kept being told I couldnt remove the folder. Disabling the UAC worked and I removed the folder. I then downloaded xampp and began the installation again but this is when I've encountered the program with Mysql. I cant remove the xampp folder again although the UAC is stll disabled so not sure what the best thing is to do so far. I've been managing to confuse myself so far so would like to begin afresh and hopefully everything will work...eventually!

Check this -

Our objective is to get Windows so it will boot without MySQL or Apache auto-starting as a service.

A. - Make sure the XAMPP will not start Apache or MySQL - use the XAMPP Control Panel, and uncheck the Svc box for Apache and MySQL. You should get a message asking if you want to uninstall the service on each - OK that.
Now restart your machine. Use My Computer, Manage, drill down to Services and see if there are MySQL or Apache services listed (you are looking at Service Control Manager).

If there are, right click on each, and Select the Properties tab. It will tell you where they are installed. If they are not in a MAMP, XAMPP or WAMP folder - Use the Windows Control Panel to remove them in Step C (be sure to write down the folder names - you will need that info later to clean up.) . If you do have Apache or MySQL services running, stop them, and change their startup type to Manual on their Properties Tab, Restart you machine, you should find no MySQL or Apache services.

B. - For any XAMPP installations, the only thing done with the Windows Registry is the registration of the actual installer. So use Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs to get rid of it.

C. - If there are Apache or MySQL installations in the Windows Control Panel, remove then as well.

D. - Delete any XAMPP folders and all the 'children/leaves' folders.

E. - Now cleanup any other relic folders left over, (using the installation folder information from Step A) many uninstalls will NOT clean out Data Folders.

F. - Check yourself - restart the machine and make sure there are no Apache or MySQL services listed in My Computer, Manage, Services. If there are no entries, you have cleaned up successfully.

G. - Before you re-install clear your working browser's cache/temporary files. You could use CCleaner, if you like, or use the built-in browser tools. I'm such a freak on bad karma, I always download a fresh installation package of whatever failed - that's a personal choice - but why take the chance?

NOW - Re-install XAMPP, being 1000% sure to do your installation in the root of C: (or any other boot drive you may have). Your likely installation should wind up with everything in C:\xampp.

BE SURE TO READ THIS: (it is specific to a problem with Vista's HOSTS file and XAMPP)
