Obivously, phpmyadmin has been redesigned.

But what is the problem? Simply hit the browse button and proceed to your (uploaded?) sql file.

Yes, I know, but still: there is no problem. The web server upload directory can be reached as well via the browse button above. I think, that the developers of phpmyadmin therefore removed the option "web server upload directory" - its obsolete.

I have the same problem. I just installed XAMMP and the server upload directory is missing. The character set for the file I want to import is latin1.

This character set is missing in the character set dropdown of the browse button. How do i work around this?

Still need to know how to specify character set. I do not see any way in the version of phpMyAdmin (the latest) that I have installed. It just uses the Swedish-1 set, which causes the queries to return wrong results from the tables, which are in Latin-1bin.

out of curiousity, exactly what kind of file are you attempting to import?

I guess I should even be more specific - what are the file contents?

This is REALLY - no matter the asnwer - a phpMyAdmin issue (and more likely a WySQL thingy).

obviously the problems that they seemed to be having wid utf-8 were corrected(earlier not using latin-1 wd lead to funny characters)
so now u can simply browse for the mysql file and use the default character set
