"An Unexpected HTTP Error" in WordPress Dashboard

Problems with the Windows version of XAMPP, questions, comments, and anything related.

"An Unexpected HTTP Error" in WordPress Dashboard

Postby rgwhitaker » 19. June 2010 20:04

I recently installed XAMPP for Windows (on a Windows 2000) system and I also installed WordPress 3.0. I want to import some "dummy" text but when I click on Tools > Import, then click on WordPress, I receive the following error: "An Unexpected HTTP Error occurred during the API request." Actually, I receive the error when I click on ANY of the options within the Import screen.

Here is what I'm running on my system:

OS: Windows 2000
XAMPP 1.7.3
WordPress 3.0

Has anyone else had this problem and what is the solution?

On another forum found at http://www.devcomments.com/Solving-An-U ... o43074.htm, I found the following resolution, but unfortunately, in my version of WordPress (3.0), the http.php file has no mention of "timeout":

I run into this error today on my wordpress site admin dashboard. This is how you fix the error:

-Go to you root directory where your wordpress blog/site is installed.
-Go to wp-includes folder/directory. Under the folder/directory, find http.php.
-Download it and open it with php or any html editor.
-Go to line No. 226(for wordpress 2.9) and find 'timeout' => apply_filters( 'http_request_timeout', 5), and replace it with 'timeout' => apply_filters( 'http_request_timeout', 30),.
-Save it and upload it to wp-includes directory.

Hopes that help.

well since WordPress 3.0 was released a couple days ago, it's not that likely others here have had your problem. But you never know.

Did you ask over at the WordPress forums? (as this is obviously a WordPress issue)

http://wordpress.org/support/

They have a Trac system for bug-reporting

Good Luck

Hi, I stuggled with this same issue. At the time I had a brand new install of wordpress 3 on my local windows machine. There were no plugins or posts. I was trying to import the xml test-data.

The fix was to install WP 2.9.1.
After the install on log in to the admin area, you are requested to upgrade. When you click continue and the upgrade successfully happens, it works.

I hope this helps you or anyone else who is having this problem. I saw quite a few references to the error and no answer other than the time out limit change. That didn't work for me either.

It took me forever to figure it out. (*sigh*)

Update*: You may need to install wordpress 3 a second time after this. I started receiving errors that some functions were undefined. I recopied the 3.0 zip file and it seems to work fine for now. *Fingers crossed*

That's very useful info, thanks.

I hope your install is stable now.
