Problem with Apache on a 2 year old installation

I am having a challenge with Apache and unable to inspect the error log.

When I start the xampp control and click to start Apache, the green Running result message will not display or might only for a brief moment. Looking at xampp\apache\logs\error.log has not provided information for it only has information related to the last successful session earlier in the week.

Is there another way to track what might be causing Apache to not start?

No.

The error log *should* work in any case. NEVER heard before, that it does not display the error. ONLY if the logfile is not writeable for Apache. If that is the case, you should find out why.

How do I find out why if errors are not being reported to the log? Seems like a Catch-22

Did you install Skype recently?

Nope. Been there. Done that. Never installing it again.

Start Apache in a DOS Shell and look for error messages on the screen.
